CAVS READY FOR CARSON-NEWMAN AFTER SCHEDULE CHANGE

After a schedule change to inclement weather, the Cavs have taken advantage of an extra day of prep in getting ready to face second-place Carson-Newman Thursday afternoon.

UVA WISE NEWS AND NOTES

>> After a 93-87 win over Anderson on Saturday, UVA Wise is looking to continue its winning with a tough road test to Jefferson City, Tenn. to take on the Carson-Newman Eagles. The Cavs will have an extra day of prep before facing the vaunted offense of the Eagles. Due to inclement weather conditions, the contest between the two teams, originally scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 17, has been rescheduled to Thursday, Jan. 18 at 5 p.m.

The Cavs had one of their best offensive performances of the season Saturday against the Trojans. Shooting 54.2 percent (32-of-59) from the floor and 47.6 percent 10-of-21) from downtown. Both marks are the second best of any conference game this season for UVA Wise. For just the third time this year, the Cavs boasted five scorers in double figures in the win. The Cavs are 3-0 this season when receiving double-digit performances from five or more players.

The scoring department was headed up by junior forward Lav Cvetkovic with a career high 24 points. Cvetkovic was unconscious from deep in the first half. Went 4-of-5 from downtown with included an unbelievable of run of burrying three straight triples in 74 seconds. Cvetkovic has started six consecutive games for the Cavs. In those six outings he's averaging 16.7 points per game on 57.1 percent shooting from the floor and an astonishing 50 percent clip from downtown with three performances of 20 or more points.

Calen Lightford, Carmelo Pacheco, Zy'Ever Wingfield and Zion Fruster were the four other Cavaliers in double figures against Anderson. Wingfield had an efficient night on 7-for-13 shooting for 16 points. He's shooting 56.5 percent from the floor this year which ranks No. 4 in the SAC. Pacheco's 17 points were the most in a game since he returned from injury on Jan. 6. Fruster's 17 points marked the 13th time this season he's had 15 or more points in game as he now ranks No. 8 in the SAC in total points and points per game. Lightford had 13 points while going 8-for-9 at the free throw line with four clutch makes. Lightford has gone 25-for-27 at the stripe this year. He's only missed one free throw since the second game of the season.

>> The Eagles of Carson-Newman open Thursday's contest on three-game win streak. They're 12-3 (5-2 SAC) on the year and tout one of the best offenses in the entire country. Carson-Newman ranks in the top 25 nationally in 13 different categories: A:TO ratio (1.54) , assists per game (20.5) , effective field goal percentage (59.9 percent), fast break points per game (18.1), field goal percentage (51.1 percent), rebound margin (11.9), defensive rebounds per game (28.9), offensive rebounds per game (13.3), total rebounds per game (42.2), scoring margin (16.3), points per game (91.8), three point percentage (43.9 percent) and three pointers per game (11.1).

The Eagles are led by junior guard Nick Brenegan in scoring at 20.6 points per game which leads the South Atlantic Conference and ranks No. 24 in the country. Brenegan leads the nation in three point percentage (52.5 percent) and three pointers made (73) while ranking fifth in NCAA Div. II in three point attempts (139).

Junior guard John Zhao is averaging 18.7 points and ranks second in the SAC in field goal percentage at 61.6 percent, while three different Eagles rank in the top 5 of the SAC in A:TO Ratio led by Brenegan at 2.93 which leads the league.

Sophomore guard Jack Browder paces the best rebounding team in the country at 7.8 rebounds per game which ranks third in the SAC. As a team, Carson-Newman leads the nation in rebounding margin, averaging 11.9 more rebounds per game than its opponents. The Eagles rarely give up offensive rebounds, grabbing 28.9 defensive rebounds per game while crashing the offensive glass as well for an average of 13.3 offensive boards per contest. Both marks are top 25 in the nation.

The Eagles' nation-leading three point percentage of 43.9 is a whopping five percentage points better than the next best mark in the SAC (LMU - 38.9 percent).
