Zion Fruster returns to UVA Wise for his sophomore season after being the second-leading scorer among freshman last season for the Cavs. Fruster did a little bit of everything for UVA Wise, averaging 7.2 PPG and reaching double figures seven times. He took advantage of his opportunities against Virginia-Lynchburg and Clinton College with his first two 20-point games of his career, with a career-high 21 points coming against Clinton. Of the returners from last year, Fruster is third on the team with 24 steals a season ago.
Fruster landed in Wise, Va. after a three-year varsity career at Alexander High School in Douglasville, Ga. As a senior, Fruster averaged 15.7 PPG, 3.5 RPG, and 2.4 SPG for the Cougars. He helped lead Alexander to a 24-5 record in the 6A region.
Fruster is studying Sports Management at UVA Wise and says his favorite athlete is Dallas Mavericks point guard Kyrie Irving "because he has a smooth game and I try to model my game after him."
Fruster chose to commit to UVA Wise in-part because of the "amazing weather" in Wise.
He is the son to his mother, Jevonda Dobbs.
