BEREA, Ky. - - The women's cross country team at UVA Wise finished fourth at the Berea College Mike and Mary Kay Johnson Invitational Saturday. Freshmen led the charge for the Cavaliers as Pound, Va. native Lydia Slemp crossed the 5K event in third place with a time of 20:42.05 and Grundy, Va. product Alexis Porter claimed fourth with a time of 20:44.06.
Berea took home the team title with a score of 31 as the Mountaineers had the top two finishers in Madison Stonestreet and Carah Anteck who posted times of 19:40.26 and 20:36.64 respectively.
Abingdon Va. native Jayden Sisk rounded out a trio of freshmen to lead UVA Wise as her time of 23:04.37 put her in 21st place. Â Isabella Sturgill placed 39th with a time of 25:02.48 with Marlise Lucas' time of 26:48.63 put her in 48th and Katherine Hopkins' time of 28:08.69 put her in 51st place.
The Live in Lou Cross Country Classic is next up for the team on Sept. 30.
