GREENEVILLE, TN – The UVA Wise women's cross country team delivered a strong team effort at the South Atlantic Conference Preview Meet Friday morning, finishing third out of seven teams on a rugged two-loop 6K course with more than 600 feet of elevation gain.
Junior
Alexsis Porter continued her standout season with a third-place finish in 25:39.00, leading the Cavaliers in their first 6K of the season. Fellow junior
Lydia Slemp wasn't far behind, clocking 26:11.80 to take fifth overall.
Freshman
Sylvie Fracis added a top 15 performance, placing 13th in 27:47.60, while freshman
Jayda Hilton finished 30th in 29:37.50. Sophomore
Shay Cannon rounded out the Cavs' top five, placing 38th with a time of 31:26.70.
Sophomore
Ashley Jackson (32:11.00, 43rd), senior
Grace Adams (34:38.60, 51st), junior
Nicole Poston (35:44.10, 57th), and junior
Jayden Sisk (37:07.20, 61st) completed the lineup as UVA Wise packed nine finishers into the field.
With times averaging 3–4 minutes off personal bests due to the course's difficulty, the Cavaliers gained valuable experience on the layout that will host the SAC Championship later this fall.
UVA Wise will return to action at the Royals Challenge, hosted by Queens University in Charlotte, N.C., on Thursday, October 10. The meet will serve as the Cavaliers' final regular-season tune-up before championship competition begins.
