CHARLOTTE, NC – The UVA Wise women's cross country team delivered one of its best performances of the season Friday at the Royals Challenge hosted by Queens University, placing second out of 19 teams in the Blue Race and posting several personal records along the way.
Junior
Lydia Slemp led the Cavaliers with a stellar runner-up finish in 18:52.33, setting a new personal record and narrowly edging teammate
Alexsis Porter, who placed third overall in 18:53.66. The pair's top-three finishes gave UVA Wise a strong start that carried through the lineup.
Freshman
Sylvie Fracis joined them in the top 10 with a career-best 19:18.83 for sixth place, marking the third Cavalier in the top six overall.
Freshman
Jayda Hilton (21:12.13, 46th) and sophomore
Ashley Jackson (21:15.07, 48th) rounded out the scoring five, while sophomore
Shay Cannon (22:02.01, 71st), junior
Jayden Sisk (22:57.45, 93rd), senior
Grace Adams (23:09.86, 98th), and junior
Nicole Poston (23:56.01, 104th) completed the strong team showing.
With three finishers in the top six and multiple personal bests, the Cavaliers capped their regular season on a high note and built major confidence heading into championship competition.
The team will now turn their attention to the SAC Championships which will take place on October 25th in Greeneville, TN.
