GREENEVILLE, TN -- The UVA Wise women's cross country team closed out the 2024 season with a strong performance at the South Atlantic Conference Championships Saturday at Kinser Park, hosted by Tusculum University.
The Cavaliers finished ninth out of 12 teams, matching last year's placement and continuing their steady rise in conference competition. The women's team title was claimed by Wingate University.
Junior
Lydia Slemp led the way once again, placing 17th overall in 25:05.77 to earn Third Team All-South Atlantic Conference honors. Slemp becomes the first women's runner in program history to earn All-Conference recognition since joining the SAC, and her 17th-place finish marks the highest individual finish by any UVA Wise athlete—men or women—since entering the league.
Freshman
Sylvie Fracis capped an impressive debut campaign with a 27th-place finish in 25:33.42, ranking as the seventh-fastest freshman in the conference field.
Sophomore
Ashley Jackson (30:41.25, 80th), sophomore
Shay Cannon (30:41.62, 81st), and senior
Grace Adams (31:30.99, 84th) rounded out the scoring five for the Cavaliers, while juniors
Nicole Poston (33:52.99, 95th) and
Jayden Sisk (33:57.79, 96th) completed the lineup.
With multiple milestones achieved and two postseason honorees, the Cavaliers continue to establish themselves as a growing force in the South Atlantic Conference.
UP NEXT
The Cavaliers will return to action at the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Championship on Saturday, November 8, hosted by Wingate University in Wingate, North Carolina. The race will serve as the final test of the season and an opportunity to compete against the top programs from across the Southeast region.
