CAVS WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY COME HOME ELEVENTH IN ROYALS CHALLENGE

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Cavalier women's cross country team competed in the Royals Challenge taking home 11th place out of 24 teams, posting a score of 296 points. 

Converse University took home the team title on the day with a score of 15. This put the Valkyries 281 points clear of the Cavs.

UVA Wise saw yet another strong performance by freshman Lydia Slemp, who finished the 5K run with a time of 19:51.61 that placed her 10th overall, out of 180 competitors, to lead the Cavs. Slemp's time is her career best performance and marks her first time cracking the 20 minute threshold in just her fourth event.

Freshman Alexsis Porter came across as the second Cavalier to finish the event, posting a time of 20:53.00 to earn a 36th place finish. Freshman Jayden Sisk crossed the line in 22:18.36 to finish 70th place and close out the top three finishers for UVA Wise.

Converse University Sophomore Lauren Beatty finished her run in 18:50.45 to earn individual first place honors in the Royals Challenge. 

The season is already starting to wrap up for the Cavs, next up on the docket will be the SAC Championships in Hickory, N.C. on Oct. 21.
