OAK RIDGE, Tenn. - Outstanding performances from
Tzu-Wei Huang and
Evan Blanton power the Cavs men's golf team to a second place finish in the Atomic City Classic, its best finish of the season.
Over the course of the two round event the Cavaliers tallied a team score of 591, coming home just six strokes shy of the overall win which went to Roane State CC.
The stellar finish for the UVA Wise team came courtesy of some fantastic individual efforts. Junior
Tzu-Wei Huang notched his second win of the season for the Cavs with a two day score of 142. His play saw him finish two strokes clear of second place and as the only player under par for the event. A slow start with a first round 74 meant Huang's ascension to the top vaulted him past nine other players. It was a final round 68 on the par-72 course that wrapped up the victory for Huang.Â
Redshirt junior
Evan Blanton finished not far behind his fellow Cavalier, just three strokes, as he finished in a third place tie to secure yet another podium spot for the Cavs. Blanton held steady while those above him on the leaderboard fell, shooting an even par 72 to move up five spots in his final round.
Sophomore
Jack England rounded out the top three for UVA Wise with a solid 20th place tie and a two day score of 152. England kept the weekend trend of finishing strong going for the Cavs, as his final round 73 was enough to move him ahead of 14 competitors.
The Cavalier men wrap up the fall portion of their campaign on a high note and carry some serious positive momentum into the upcoming winter break.
