SNOW HILL, N.C. - In its third outing of the season the UVA Wise men's golf team played its way to a 14th place finish in the Barton College Fall Intercollegiate.
The Cavaliers tallied a team score of 927 over the course of three rounds at Cutter Creek Golf Club. The Cavs 14th place effort saw them finish close behind Mount Olive's B team, with 924, and ahead of Chowan University with 941.
Barton College's A-Team stole the show by taking the overall victory as the hosts of the invitational. Barton finished with a score of 862 and came in 65 strokes in front of UVA Wise.
The star for the Cavs over the course of this invitational was redshirt junior Evan Blanton. Blanton was the best finisher for UVA Wise as he finished with a score of 227, good enough to slot him into a 27th place tie. Blanton was also responsible for the best Cavalier round of the three days of play, as he finished strong with a final round 72.
Junior Tzu-Wei Huang appears next on the leaderboard, in a tie for 63rd, for the Cavs. While Huang's incredible hot streak to start the season came to an end, the junior from Thailand continued to fight and finished on a high note, with his best round being a final round 74.
Junior Tanner Devlin and freshman Anthony Souza rounded out the top Cavalier finishers for the event, finishing in a tie for 70th place.
Individual first place went to Barton College senior Harrison Wierse. Wierse tallied a three round score of 211, including a final round 68, and finished two strokes in front of second place.
The Cavalier men will be back in action to close out the season in The Atomic City Classic at Oak Ridge Country Club on Oct. 23 - Oct. 24.
