CHARLESTON, W.Va. - - The men's golf team at UVA Wise opened up its fall season under the direction of first-year coach Evan Sturgill at the University of Charleston Invitational this week. The Cavaliers placed 12th in the event with a team score of 622, host University of Charleston took home the team title with a score of 571 as the Golden Eagles were led by individual champion David Scragg's two-day score of 138.
Redshirt senior Alex Arnold paced UVA Wise golfers in the event as the Wytheville, Va. native finished tied for 15th. Arnold took five strokes off his day one score of 76 to finish with a 147 in the tournament.
Big Stone Gap, Va. product Evan Blanton tied for 63rd with a 158 with Peyton Wilson, Jacob Sowers and Tanner Devlin all shooting a 162 to tie for 76th.
UVA Wise will return to the course on Monday, Sept. 27 when the team plays in the King University Invitational in Bristol, Tenn. Â
