MASON, W.Va. - - The UVa-Wise men's golf team finished second at the Shirners Hospital for Kids Shootout in Mason, West Virginia. Redshirt junior Alex Arnold led the way for Davis Absher's Cavaliers as he shot a 144 to finish in third place. Arnold's 144 was boosted by a 68 on day two of the event, the 68 was the third lowest round score of any individual competing in the tournament. As a team, Absher's squad finished second in the event with a team score of 596 finishing 25 strokes behind team champion Ohio Valley.

Freshman Evan Blanton finished in fifth place with a score of 146, Hunter Farley placed seventh with a score of 150 and Jacob Sowers shot a 156 to tie for tenth to round out a quartet of UVa-Wise golfers in the top ten.

Cole Stanley finished with 15th with a two-day score of 175 to round Cavs in the event.

Next up, the team will wrap up the fall portion of its schedule at the State Farm Intercollegiate and SAC Preview. The event will be hosted by the Woodlake Golf Course in Tazewell, Virginia beginning on Oct. 6.
