GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - - The UVa-Wise men's golf team finished ninth in its season opening spring tournament held at Link Hills Golf and Country Club. Host Tusculum University took home the team crown with a two-day tally of 583 to finish eight strokes better than Walters State Community College. Davis Absher's Cavaliers finished the event with a score of 638.
Alex Arnold was the highest finishing UVa-Wise golfer as the Wytheville, Va. native shot a 72 on day of the event to finish with a two-day score of 154 to finish in a tie for 19th place. Bryce Varner was two strokes behind Arnold and finished in a tie for 27th while senior Jacob Smith shot a 160 to finish tied for 38th. Hunter Lunsford's 169 placed him tied for 59th and Hunter Farley placed 62nd with a score 172 to round Cavaliers in the field.
Alex Hodge of Walters State took home medalist honors with a score of 138 beating Tusculum's Jeff Perez by five strokes.
UVa-Wise will return to action on March 29 at the Alice Lloyd Spring Invitational in Richmond, Ky.
