DANIELS, W.Va. - - The UVa-Wise men's golf team kicked off the fall portion of the season with a 17th place showing at the Glade Springs Intercollegiate Championship with a three-round score of 945. Arkansas Tech took home the team title with a score of 878, nine strokes better than Southeast Oklahoma State.
Alex Arnold was the highest finished Cavalier as the redshirt sophomore finished with a three-day tally of 232. The Wytheville, Va. product shot a 78 on day one before firing back-to-back rounds of 77 to finish in a tie for 35th.
Senior Jacob Smith tied for 50th after shooting a 74 in round one, the Strasburg, Va. native shot a 79 and 82 to finish with a 232 for the event. Bryce Varner tied for 57th after shooting an 81, 78 and 77 in the tournament.
Hunter Lunsford tied for 94th in his first collegiate event with a score of 247 while Hunter Farley tied for 107th with a score of 253.
Next up, Davis Absher's team will compete in the Green Turtle Invitational in Winchester, Va. The event begins on Sept. 9.
