Men's Golf Finishes Sixth in MEC Championship

DANIELS, W.Va. - - UVa-Wise finished sixth in the annual Mountain East Conference Men's Golf Championship held at the Cobb Course at Glade Springs this week. The Cavaliers finished with a tournament score of 340 over the 54-hole event, finishing 36 strokes off the pace set by league champion the University of Charleston.

Redshirt sophomore Alex Arnold led Davis Absher's team as he finished with a score 232 to tie for 13th as an individual. The Wytheville, Va. product fired a 76 on day one of the event before posting back-to-back rounds of 78 to round out the tournament. Arnold parred 32 of the 54 holes he played while adding five birdies.

Bryce Varner finished 21st after posting the lowest round of any Cav in the event with a 74 on day three en route to a three-day total of 237. The Bassett, Va. native excelled on par five holes over the course of the tournament by finishing -1 on such holes. Overall, Varner birdied five holes in the event.

Hunter Farley tied for 26 with a score of 340 while Hunter Lunsford's 341 placed him 29th. A freshman from Coeburn, Va., Lunsford finished with a tournament-high 10 birdies while posting par on 21 holes.

Jacob Smith shot a 248 to round out UVa-Wise golfers in the event, the senior finished 33rd.
