DANVILLE, KY – The UVA Wise men's and women's track and field teams closed out the regular season with an impressive collection of top-five finishes at the Centre Indoor Invitational and Multi Meet, February 13–14. With multiple school records falling and several podium performances secured, the Cavaliers head into championship season with strong momentum.
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
- The men were led by freshman
Dylan Colander, who placed
fourth in the 5000 meters while breaking the
school record with a time of
16:08.00. His performance marked a significant personal best and highlighted a strong showing from the Cavaliers' distance group.
- Junior
Bobby Cline delivered another record-setting performance in the throws, finishing
fifth in the weight throw with a
school-record mark of 16.82m (55-2). Teammate
Logan Seith added a personal-best throw in the event, continuing the upward trend for the men's throws squad.
- Freshman
David Williams earned a
runner-up finish in the pole vault, clearing
4.30m (14-1.25) to cap one of his strongest indoor performances of the season.
- On the track,
Peyton Honeycutt sprinted to a
fourth-place finish in the 60 meters (7.00), while
Brayden Houchins recorded a personal best in the 200 meters. The combination of top-five finishes and personal bests underscored the team's steady development heading into the postseason.
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
- The UVA Wise women matched the men's intensity with a series of podium finishes and record-breaking performances.
- Senior
Haley Faulkner placed
fifth in the 400 meters while breaking her own
school record with a personal-best time of
1:00.07. Junior
Lydia Slemp also set a new
school record in the 800 meters, finishing in
2:29.07 in a strong championship-tune-up performance.
- Freshman
Sylvie Fracis captured the
5000-meter title in
19:38.81, recording a personal best in the victory. The Cavaliers also secured a win in the
4x400-meter relay, as
Jocie Aldrich, Lydia Slemp, Kylie Brodt, and
Haley Faulkner combined for a first-place finish in
4:22.76.
- In the sprints,
Olivia McClintock finished
second in the 60 meters (7.91), while
Destiny Ansley-Cureton added a
fourth-place finish in the event. In the field,
Lexi Carter earned a
third-place finish in the shot put (12.56m), and
Braelynn Strouth secured a
runner-up finish in the pentathlon (2750 points).
- Additional personal bests from
Grace Adams,
Shay Cannon,
Alexsis Porter,
Mia Hamilton,
Fairyn Meares, and
Kaylee Cooper added depth to a well-rounded team performance to close the regular season.
UP NEXT
The Cavaliers now turn their attention to the
South Atlantic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, set for February 28–March 1 in Winston-Salem, N.C., at the JDL Fast Track. UVA Wise will look to carry its momentum of top-five finishes and record-breaking performances into conference competition.
