WISE – Five track and field student-athletes have been named to the College Sports Communicators Academic Men's All-District Track and Field/Cross Country Team.
Caleb Yeary,
Bobby Cline,
Ryan Campbell,
Zachary Owens, and
Jonah Adams all earned the honor.
Yeary, a senior from Ewing, Virginia, provisionally qualified for the NCAA National Championship Meet with his times in the 100 and 200 meter dashes. He finished eighth in the region in the 100 meters with a time of 10.40 in the South Atlantic Conference Championship and had a time of 21.02 in the 200 meter event in the Asheville Bulldog Invitational, placing seventh.
Cline placed twelfth in the hammer throw with a 48.79 meter throw in the SAC Championship. The Abingdon, Virginia, sophomore also placed 37th in the javelin in the Asheville Bulldog Invitational with a throw of 42.48 meters.
Campbell, a sophomore from Sperryville, Virginia, placed 36th in the hammer throw (39.84m) in the SAC Championships.
A senior from Castlewood, Virginia, Owens placed 26th in javelin at the SAC Championships.
Adams, a junior from Delano, Tennessee, placed 47th in the mile in the Centre Indoor Invitational with a time of 4:25.10.
The Academic All-District® Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court/field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Nominees must be at least a sophomore with at a 3.5 grade point average or higher. They must also have played in a specific number of games/matches or started a specific number of games/matches. Some sports have extra criteria, like track and field nominees needing to win or place highly in the regional rankings. The number of nominees are limited within each respective sport and the at-large team (which comprises golf, lacrosse, beach volleyball, field hockey, and several other sports).
