Bobby Cline,
Peyton Honeycutt, and
David Lee Williams have been named Indoor Athletes to Watch by the South Atlantic Conference Track & Field coaches in their preseason release. The men's team was also picked to finish eleventh in the Preseason Poll.
Cline, a junior thrower from Abingdon, Virginia, holds the school record for the indoor weight throw and has had several top ten finishes in shot put, hammer throw, weight throw, and javelin.
Honeycutt is a junior sprinter from Big Stone Gap, Virginia. He has a school record as part of the 4x400 meter relay team. He placed 20th in the 100 meter dash in the SAC Indoor Championship last year and has multiple top ten career finishes in the 60 meter, 100 meter, and 200 meter events.
Williams is a freshman pole vaulter from Stuart, Virginia. He placed second in the recent ASICS Get Your Marks Meet with a jump of 4.25m (13' 11.25"). Last year at North Stokes he won the North Carolina 1A state championship in pole vault with a jump of 14 feet. He also won the event his junior season as well.
UVA Wise placed eleventh in the preseason poll. Wingate topped the poll, with Carson-Newman coming in second. Lenoir-Rhyne was third, followed by Catawba and Anderson.
The team will compete this Saturday at the Centre College First Chance Meet in Danville, Kentucky.
