Spencer Powell dominated from the second inning on, while
Morgan Miller delivered a clutch bases-clearing double for the Cavaliers, as UVA Wise overcame a 3-0 deficit, rallying for a 6-4 victory on Friday night at Stallard Field.
With UVA Wise and Newberry among eight South Atlantic Conference teams separated by just four games in the win column, UVA Wise picked up a crucial win, with just eight SAC games remaining for both teams battling for a SAC tournament positioning.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
-In the top of the first inning, Newberry loaded the bases after a single and two hit batters, before Wilson Wages cleared the bases with a 3-rbi double to right field. Cavalier Starter
Spencer Powell would not allow another run through seven innings of work as he struck out four and allowed just six hits.
-The Cavs narrowed the deficit to one after a
DJ Dickson 2-run homer in third inning.
-In the bottom of the eighth, UVA Wise picked up three consecutive singles by Josh Morgan,
Jaden Ruehling, and
Jake Smith, which set the stage for
Morgan Miller. The third basemen delivered with one of the biggest hits of his career, clearing the bases with a double to right center, giving the Cavs a 5-3 lead. Miller then extended the lead to 6-3, coming around to score on a wild pitch.

Ryan Whitson slammed the door in the ninth inning, with a strikeout to end the game, earning his fifth save of the season.

Bo Trantham worked a scoreless top of the eighth inning to pick up his fifth win of the season.
-UVA Wise outhit the Wolves 15-7, which included multi-hit games by
Nick Badgett, Dickson, Josh Morgan, and
Jacob Boyle.
-Boyle went 4-4 in the win, the second 4-hit game of his career. Boyle also had four hits against the Wolves in 2023.

UVA Wise will continue their penultimate homestand of the season with a doubleheader against Newberry, Saturday at 1:00PM. The Cavaliers will play a non-conference game with Carson-Newman Tuesday, before their home finale next weekend, as they host Mars Hill for Senior Weekend at Stallard Field.
