Ferrum Takes Pair of 9-4 Wins over UVA Wise Tuesday Afternoon

FERRUM, VA – Ferrum won both games of a mid-week doubleheader against UVA Wise by scores of 9-4 Tuesday afternoon.

GAME ONE
- The Cavaliers tallied 10 hits, including a double, while Ferrum capitalized on a four-run fourth inning and a four-run sixth inning to secure the win.
- The Panthers took an early lead in the third inning when Tyler Mason singled and advanced to third on a first-base error, allowing CJ Kemmerer to score. Ferrum led 1-0 after three innings.
- In the fourth inning, Ferrum extended its lead with a grand slam by Jayden Singleton, scoring Niko Papathanasiou, Garrett Pancione, and Colin Kim. This brought Ferrum's advantage to 5-0 through four innings.
- The Cavs got on the board in the fifth inning. Andrew Hardy singled and later scored on Tanner Jones' RBI single, narrowing the score to 5-1 after five innings.
- The sixth inning saw a surge of offense from both teams. The Cavaliers' rally began with Drew Knight scoring on Bernard Creque's RBI single. Dalton Chapman, pinch-hitting for Derrick Hall, delivered a two-RBI single, plating Creque and Hardy. These contributions brought UVA Wise within striking distance, trailing 9-4 through six innings.
- Despite these efforts, the Panthers maintained their lead, securing a 9-4 victory over the Cavs.
- Ean Marria pitched for 3 innings, allowing 5 earned runs on 5 hits with 1 strikeout and 1 walk, resulting in a WHIP of 2.00. - The Cavaliers responded in the second inning. Bernard Creque singled, advanced to third on a hit by pitch and a stolen base, and scored on Jacob Boyle's sacrifice fly. Tyler Jones, who was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on Dylan Foster's single, giving the Cavs a 2-1 lead. However, the Panthers tied the game at 2-2 after Jayden Singleton reached on an error and scored on Eli Elliott's single.
- In the fourth inning, Ferrum broke the tie with a four-run burst. Eli Elliott doubled to score Singleton, followed by RBI singles from Jachob Walters and Niko Papathanasiou, who drove in two more runs to extend Ferrum's lead to 6-2.
- The Highland Cavaliers narrowed the gap in the fifth inning. Derrick Hall doubled and scored on Carter Babb's single. Jaden Ruehling also scored after Bernard Creque walked with the bases loaded, bringing the score to 6-4. Ferrum responded with three runs, highlighted by Smith Dickinson's RBI double, increasing its lead to 9-4.
- Despite strong pitching performances in the sixth and seventh innings, where neither team scored, the game concluded with Ferrum securing a 9–4 victory over UVA Wise.
- Braden Hamilton pitched 4 innings, allowing 9 hits and 5 earned runs while striking out 1 batter. Julius Sellars faced 5 batters in 1/3 inning, yielding 2 hits and 3 earned runs, along with 2 walks. Hunter Garrett pitched 2/3 of an inning without giving up a hit or a run and recorded 1 strikeout, despite issuing 2 walks.
