Cavs Take Game Two From Lenoir-Rhyne, Bears Take SAC Series

WISE – UVA Wise took game two by a 4-2 margin from #13 Lenoir-Rhyne, but the Bears won the other two games to take the South Atlantic Conference season series.

GAME ONE
- The Cavaliers hit two home runs in the contest but were unable to overcome the Bears' nine doubles and one home run that propelled them to victory.
UVA Wise opened the scoring in the first inning with a solo home run by Luke Johnson, cutting into Lenoir-Rhyne's early lead. The Bears had already scored three runs in the top of the inning, capitalizing on a fielding error and a throwing error. The score after the first inning was 3-1 in favor of Lenoir-Rhyne.
- In the second inning, the Cavs added two more runs. Jaden Ruehling scored on a walk, and Morgan Miller crossed the plate on a wild pitch, narrowing the deficit after the Bears added one run in their half. The score stood at 4-3 with Lenoir-Rhyne leading.
- The Highland Cavaliers managed to hold the Bears scoreless in the fourth, while adding two runs of their own. Morgan Miller scored on a walk, and Dalton Chapman followed with another run after a bases-loaded situation. This brought UVA Wise closer, with the score at 6-5 in favor of Lenoir-Rhyne.
- The fifth inning saw a power surge from both teams. For the Cavaliers, Dane Frellick's two-run homer brought them within two runs, yet the Bears managed to extend their lead again, concluding the inning at 9-7.
- Lenoir-Rhyne's offense exploded in the eighth inning, scoring five runs. UVA Wise was unable to respond in their half, leaving the score at 14-7.
- Eli Reece pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing nine runs on nine hits, including one home run, while issuing five walks and striking out one. Gabe Gowder relieved for 3 innings, giving up three runs on four hits, with one walk and three strikeouts. Logan Delph faced five batters in 2/3 of an inning, conceding two runs on one hit with one walk. Jake DeNeef closed the game with a scoreless inning, retiring all three batters faced, including one strikeout.
- Johnson led the team with a home run and two RBIs, contributing significantly to the offensive effort. Frellick also added power to the lineup, hitting a home run and collecting two RBIs in the process. Ruehling crossed the plate twice, showcasing his ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities. Miller recorded two hits and scored two runs, helping to sustain the team's momentum throughout the game.

GAME TWO
- UVA Wise tied the series as they secured a 4-2 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne in game two. In the second inning, Carter Babb tied the game at 1-1 with a home run to center field.
- The score remained tied through the third inning. In the fourth, Babb delivered again with another solo home run, putting the Cavs ahead 2-1. Lenoir-Rhyne responded in the fifth with a home run by Mackenzie Wainwright, tying the game at 2-2.
- UVA Wise broke the deadlock in the sixth inning when Jake Smith homered to center field, giving the Highland Cavaliers a 3-2 lead. Later in the inning, Jacob Boyle doubled, driving in Babb for an additional run to make it 4-2. The Cavs held Lenoir-Rhyne scoreless in the seventh, securing the win with a final score of 4-2.
- Bo Trantham delivered a strong performance on the mound, pitching 6 innings and allowing only 3 hits while striking out 8 batters. He conceded 2 earned runs, one of which came from a home run, and issued 4 walks. Trantham's outing was complemented by a win, improving his record to 1-4 and maintaining a WHIP of 1.17. Ryan Whitson provided relief in the seventh inning, pitching 1 inning without allowing a hit, although he walked 3 batters, contributing to his WHIP of 3.00, and secured his second save of the season.
- Carter Babb led the Cavaliers' offense with three hits, two home runs, and two RBIs, while also scoring three runs. Jake Smith contributed a solo home run, adding one hit and one RBI to his performance. Bo Trantham earned the win on the mound, pitching 6 innings with eight strikeouts while allowing three hits and two earned runs. Jacob Boyle delivered offensively with a double, driving in one run in his two at-bats.

GAME THREE
- UVA Wise started strong with a four-run first inning. Jaden Ruehling doubled down the right field line, and Luke Johnson followed with a single. After Johnson stole second, Joshua Morgan hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Ruehling. Jake Smith walked, and Carter Babb doubled, driving in both Johnson and Smith. Morgan Miller added a single, allowing Babb to score, giving the Cavs a 4-0 lead after the first inning.
- In the third inning, Lenoir-Rhyne's Mackenzie Wainwright homered to cut into the lead, but the Cavaliers responded with an RBI double from Jacob Boyle, scoring Smith to maintain a 5-2 advantage through three innings.
- The Bears surged in the fourth inning, scoring seven runs. Lleyton Lackey homered, followed by several key hits, including a two-RBI single from Matt Procopio. Errors allowed additional runs, pushing Lenoir-Rhyne ahead 9-5 after four innings.
- The seventh inning saw the Bears extend their lead with a two-run homer by Andrew Muraco and an RBI single by Procopio, making it 13-5.
- UVA Wise attempted a comeback in the eighth inning. With Joshua Morgan on third, a walk to Boyle brought in a run. Morgan Miller's two-RBI double further reduced the deficit, bringing the score to 13-8 after eight innings. The Cavs were unable to make up any ground in the ninth inning and the Bears held on for the win.
- Mason McAlarnis pitched 3 innings, allowing 8 hits and 4 earned runs, while issuing 1 walk on 69 pitches. Hunter Garrett faced three batters without recording an out, surrendering 1 hit and 2 earned runs, while walking two. Sawyer Patrick contributed 3 innings, striking out 4 and allowing 1 earned run on 4 hits. Logan Delph pitched 2 2/3 innings effectively, allowing just 1 hit and striking out 2, maintaining a WHIP of 0.45.
 - Jaden Ruehling contributed with two hits, including a double, and scored a run. Luke Johnson recorded two hits, three walks, and a stolen base, highlighting his on-base skills. Carter Babb tallied two hits and two RBIs while adding a double, demonstrating effective run production. Morgan Miller excelled with three hits, including a double, and drove in three runs, showcasing offensive productivity.
