BOONE, NC - The UVA Wise track & field teams delivered a strong showing at the App State Open, hosted by Appalachian State University, breaking eight school records and collecting 17 top-10 finishes in their final regular season meet of the year.
On the women's side,
Haley Faulkner sprinted to a school record in the 200 meters, clocking 26.24 seconds (+0.4), while also anchoring the 4x100 meter relay team that shattered the program record with a time of 48.93 seconds, alongside
Madison Sutherland,
Destiny Ansley-Cureton, and
Madison Outland.
Alexsis Porter added a record of her own in the 10,000 meters with a time of 40:34.15, and
Braelynn Strouth reset the 100-meter hurdles mark with a 16.45 (+1.7) finish.
In the field events,
Nia Rogers claimed first place in the shot put and broke the school record with a throw of 12.48m (40-11.25). On the men's side,
Jonah Adams established a new school record in the 800 meters (2:01.20), and
Bobby Cline doubled up with program-best marks in the discus (37.69m) and hammer throw (47.92m).
The Cavaliers also produced several strong top-10 performances.
Caleb Yeary placed third in the 100 meters (10.77, +1.3),
Madison Sutherland earned sixth in the 100 meters, and
Braelynn Strouth recorded top-five finishes in both hurdles and high jump, along with a ninth-place in triple jump. Zach Owens and
Bobby Cline each earned top-five finishes in the javelin, while freshman
Mady Buchanan impressed with a second-place throw in the same event.
The App State Open marks the conclusion of UVA Wise's regular season. The Cavaliers will now prepare for the South Atlantic Conference Championships, which will take place April 31–May 1 in Hickory, N.C
