WISE – The UVA Wise softball team wrapped up their 22 game homestand with a split against Davis & Elkins Sunday afternoon. The Senators took game one 4-3 and the Highland Cavaliers came from five runs down to win game two 7-5.

GAME ONE
- The Senators scored four unanswered runs – one in the fourth inning, two in the fifth, and one in the sixth.

Mataya Ausmus put the Cavs on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning as she hit a leadoff triple and then scored two pitches later on a wild pitch. UVA Wise had the bases loaded later in the inning, but were unable to score.
- As in the sixth inning, the Cavs loaded the bases in the seventh before an Ausmus fielder's choice scored
Gracee Greer. On the next at bat,
Riley Nichols singled through the left side, scoring
Jessica Clark.
Abagail Mills would also score in the inning via a sacrifice fly from
Adyson Gibson, but the Senators held on for the win.
- Nichols led the team as she went 2-2 with an RBI, while five other Cavs had a hit apiece.
GAME TWO
- Davis & Elkins scored in the first inning via a solo home run. They then added a pair of runs in the second and a pair in the third. The Cavs defense then stiffened, allowing only two hits over the rest of the game.
- The Cavs had a big fifth inning, scoring five runs off of two hits. Four of the first five UVA Wise hitters of the inning walked, with Mills scoring from the last walk. After D&E got the second out from a force out at home plate,
Kaylynn Baker then doubled and scored Gibson and Nichols. Both runners on base then advanced on a wild pitch and
Lindsey Polan was walked to load the bases again with two outs. After a pitching change,
Mallory McKnight brought in the fifth run of the inning with a single to left field that scored Greer.
- UVA Wise then added two runs in the sixth to take the lead for good as
Taylor Clay doubled to center field with two runners on, scoring Gibson and Ausmus. The Cavs then shut down D&E in the seventh to claim their fifteenth win of the season.

Kaylynn Baker led the team as she went 3-4 with two RBI.
Alivia Nolley entered the game in the third inning with one out and only allowed two hits over the rest of the game to earn her fifth win of the season.
UP NEXT
The Cavs will hit the road for the first time since February 9 when they travel to Lenoir-Rhyne Wednesday and Tusculum Saturday for a pair of SAC contests.
