WISE -- The University of Virginia's College at Wise (UVA Wise) Director of Athletics Kendall Rainey has announced the hiring of Taylor Segorski as the Head Softball Coach. Coach Segorski has most recently been the Assistant Softball Coach at Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Michigan.

She becomes the eleventh head coach in the half-century history of the program and the eighth of the modern era (1997-present). 

In the 2026 season, Coach Segorski helped Hillsdale to a 32-win season that included a victory over two-time defending national champion UT-Tyler and they finished the season ranked tenth in the Midwest Region. She supported all aspects of the program with emphasis on opponent scouting reports, strategic game management, recruiting, and mental game preparation. 

Prior to Hillsdale, Coach Segorski served as Assistant Softball Coach at Albion College and Davenport University. She has also coached high school softball and within the 906 Fastpitch Organization. 

She competed at Grand Valley State University (GVSU) where she played catcher and was part of teams that were a combined 153-32 and made two NCAA DII College World Series. She was also an executive board member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee at GVSU. 

Rainey stated, "This is a very exciting time for our softball program. We are delighted to welcome Coach Segorski to UVA Wise. She embodies the NCAA DII philosophy and has been part of programs competing at the highest levels of DII softball. Her passion for the game, player development, and overall student-athlete experience as well as her vision to build a championship culture align perfectly with our mission." 

Coach Segorski shared, "I am incredibly honored and excited to take on the position of Head Softball Coach at UVA Wise! I would like to thank Dr. Rainey and the athletic department for their trust and confidence in me, and for the opportunity to lead this program. The commitment to excellence and to the success of our student athletes is apparent throughout the department, and I am excited to contribute to that vision. I truly believe we have the foundation to accomplish great things, and I look forward to working alongside the athletic department, student-athletes, staff, alumni, and campus community to build a championship-caliber program that represents UVA Wise with pride!" 

Segorski is a native of Escanaba, Michigan, and she holds a bachelor's degree in biomedical sciences with a certificate in sports coaching and a master's degree in cell and molecular biology from GVSU.  

Rainey continued, "Coach Segorski is a driven coach and we are thrilled for her to guide the next era of Highland Cavalier softball." 

UVA Wise partnered with Mammoth Sports Consulting to assist in the search for its new head softball coach. Mammoth Vice President Dr. Kurt Patberg led the search effort.
