UVA Wise Softball Places Four on CSC Academic All-District Team

WISE -- UVA Wise softball student-athletes Bayleigh Allison, Kaylynn Baker, Taylor Clay, and Adyson Gibson have been named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® Team for the 2026 season.

Allison, a native of Wise, recently graduated as one of the top pitchers on the squad in the program's South Atlantic Conference era. She won 17 games and had three saves in 60 appearances while compiling a 4.45 ERA with 114 strikeouts in 195 innings pitched.

Baker, a junior infielder from Kingsport, Tennessee led the team in hits with 58 and doubles with 16 while hitting .365 for the year. She also had 30 RBI and scored 29 runs. Her 16 doubles tied for the second most in a season in program history and ended the season ranked eleventh in career batting average (.337) and tied for twelfth in career doubles (27).

Clay, a sophomore from Coeburn, Virginia hit .329 for the year with 46 hits, 34 runs, eleven doubles, and eight stolen bases. She ends the season ranked sixth in career on-base percentage (.434), tied for seventh in sacrifice flies (5), eighth in assists (225) and ninth in batting average (.343).

Gibson recently ended her career at UVA Wise leading the team in several offensive categories, earning All-SAC Third Team honors for her efforts. The Gate City, Virginia product led in batting average (.379), triples (4), stolen bases (16), and set a new school record for walks in a season with 31. She ends her career ranked third in on-base percentage (.447), fourth in walks (71), tied for fourth in triples (9), tied for fifth in stolen base percentage (.505), sixth in batting average (.351), tied for seventh in stolen bases (38) and tied for eighth in stolen base attempts (42).

The Academic All-District® Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court/field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

Nominees must be at least a sophomore with a 3.5 grade point average or higher. They must also have played in a specific number of games/matches or started a specific number of games/matches. Some sports have extra criteria, like track and field nominees needing to win or place highly in the regional rankings. The number of nominees are limited within each respective sport and the at-large team (which comprises golf, lacrosse, beach volleyball, field hockey, and several other sports).
