HICKORY, NC – UVA Wise softball hit the road for a pair of SAC series this week at Lenoir-Rhyne today and #23 Tusculum on Friday. In the first series, the Cavs fell at Lenoir-Rhyne by 8-0 and 12-4 decisions.
The game at Tusculum was originally scheduled for Saturday, but with poor weather forecasted for this weekend it has been moved up a day to Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the first game, Lenoir-Rhyne tallied eight runs off of eleven hits while holding the Cavs to two hits as the Bears took the 8-0 shutout in five innings.
- The Cavalier hits came from
Mallory McKnight and
Taylor Clay.
- In the second game, the Cavs scored four runs from nine hits, but a big second inning by the Bears put them ahead by five runs as they went on for the 12-4 win.

Kaylynn Baker singled in the first inning and, after the bases were later loaded, scored from third when
Savannah Johnson was walked, putting the Cavs ahead 1-0. After the Bears scored two in the bottom of the first,
Mataya Ausmus opened the top of the second with a leadoff double and later scored from a RBI single by Clay.
- The Bears would then score five more runs in the second and two in the fifth to lead 9-2. In the top of the sixth, Baker would score
Adyson Gibson and
Riley Nichols with a double down the left field line. But the Bears had three score in the bottom of the inning to end the game 12-4.
- Baker would end up 3-4 in game two with two RBI and Gibson 2-3 to lead the Cavs.
- For the day, Clay ended up hitting .600 (3-5) with a RBI, Baker went .429 as she was 3-7 with a run and two RBI, while McKnight was .400 (2-5).

The Cavs will face #23 Tusculum on Red Edmonds Field Friday at 1 p.m. The ranking is the first for the Pioneers since they joined the NCAA Division II in the early 1990s. They are currently a NCAA Division II-leading 27-1 overall and are 6-0 in SAC play with series sweeps of Coker, Anderson, and Limestone.
