WISE – UVA Wise and Newberry split their South Atlantic Conference series Wednesday afternoon, with the Wolves taking the first game and the Highland Cavaliers winning the nightcap.

GAME ONE
- The Cavs Rallied from two runs down to tie the game up on two occasions but the Wolves eked out a pair of runs in the sixth to take the 6-4 win despite the Cavs outhitting them 11-10.
- The Wolves scored twice in the top of the second as a throwing error allowed one run to score from first, followed by the first hitter on the next at bat as she scored on a groundout.

Kaylynn Baker opened up the bottom of the second with a hit and later scored on a single by
Mataya Ausmus. They scored again in the third as
Taylor Clay was walked and later scored from second on a
Lindsey Polan single.
- The Wolves scored two runs in the fourth to retake the lead. UVA Wise answered back in the next inning as Clay reached on a single and then advanced to third on a single by
Mallory McKnight. She then stole home on a double steal. Polan grounded out on the next at bat, scoring
Riley Nichols, who was pinch-running for McKnight.
- Newberry scored twice in the top of the sixth to retake the lead, and the Cavs had chances in the sixth and seventh innings but were unable to capitalize on them, falling 6-4.

Savannah Johnson was 2-3 in the game, while Baker and Polan were each 2-4 with a RBI.
GAME TWO

Olivia Shockley earned the win and
Bayleigh Allison got her first save of the year as the Cavs took a 4-0 lead and held off a late Newberry rally to win 4-3.
- The Cavs plated three runs in the third as
Abagail Mills was walked and then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Adyson Gibson. She then scored from second as
Taylor Clay reached on a fielding error. After the bases were loaded, Baker scored Clay on a single through the left side, followed by McKnight on the next at bat via a fielders choice.
- The Cavs added what would be a needed insurance run in the fourth as Mills scored from third on a groundout.
- The score stood until the top of the seventh when the Wolves loaded the bases. They then scored on a wild pitch, followed by a pair of scores from a groundout and a single to center field. The Cavalier defense then stiffened and the game ended with a fly out to left field.
- Johnson was 3-3 in the game, while Clay was 2-4 with a run and a RBI and a stolen base.
- Shockley earned the win as she allowed three runs on six hits, while Allison came in during the seventh inning and allowed one hit to earn the save.
GETTING WISE
- For the series Johnson hit .833 (5-6) with two doubles. Polan and Clay both hit .429 as both went 3-7 with a RBI, while Clay also scored three times and was 2-2 in stolen bases.
UP NEXT
The Cavs will close out the four game home stand as they host Carson-Newman in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon. The Eagles enter Saturday's games with a 21-13 overall record and an 8-6 record in SAC play following a series split with Limestone earlier today that broke a three game losing streak.
