Track & Field Has Big Day at Mountaineer First Chance Meet

BOONE, NC - The UVA Wise Cavaliers had a strong showing at the Mountaineer First Chance Meet, hosted by Appalachian State in Boone, North Carolina. Several school records were set, and the Cavaliers secured top finishes in both track and field events, making an early-season statement. 

MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS

Caleb Yeary had a standout performance, breaking the school record in the 200m with a time of 21.67 (+1.7) and placing fifth. He also earned a third-place finish in the 100m with a time of 10.52 (+2.4). Francis Roberts had an excellent outing, setting a new school record in the 400m with a personal best of 49.85, finishing second overall. 

Jonah Adams ran a solid 4:12.84 in the 1500m, securing third place, and also posted a time of 2:08.17 in the 800m, finishing in the top 10. In the hurdles, Abel Dingus ran a 19.55 (+1.3) in the 110m hurdles, placing fifth. Landon Bishop also excelled in the hurdles, finishing sixth with a time of 19.71 (+1.3). 

In the field events, Hunter Garrett cleared 3.90m (12-9.50") in the pole vault to place third. Additionally, Bobby Cline threw 45.55m (149-5") in the hammer, finishing fourth. 

WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS 

On the women's side, Haley Faulkner led the way with a school-record time of 1:03.67 in the 400m, earning a sixth-place finish. The women's 4x100m relay team, consisting of Madison Outland, Destiny Ansley-Cureton, Madison Sutherland, and Faulkner, claimed third with a time of 50.73. 

Raegan Cox cleared 1.50m (4-9") in the high jump to finish in third place. She also placed second in the triple jump with a leap of 10.87m (35-8"), while Braelynn Strouth finished fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 10.64m (34-11"). 

In the 5000m, Alexsis Porter clocked an impressive 18:51.58, earning eighth place. Additionally, Kylie Brodt placed ninth in the 400m with a time of 1:06.71, while Paige Phillips ran 16.89 (+2.2) in the 100m hurdles to finish seventh. 

UP NEXT 

The Cavaliers will be back in action on Friday, March 28th, for the next meet in Bristol, Tennessee, hosted by King University. With strong performances across the board in Boone, UVA Wise is poised to continue their momentum in upcoming competitions.
