WISE – The UVA Wise softball team extended their winning streak to four games as they defeated Chowan 7-5 and Cedarville 9-1 Saturday afternoon on the Bill Gatton Field.
The Cavs saw Chowan tie the game up in the top of the sixth inning before retaking the lead with two runs in the bottom of the inning.
In the second game, they score four runs in the first and five in the fifth to defeat Cedarville via the run-rule.

GAME ONE – Chowan vs. UVA Wise
- Chowan scored in the top of the second via a sacrifice fly. The Cavs answered back in the bottom of the third via a pair of RBI singles and a sacrifice fly.
- The Hawks scored three runs in the top of the fourth to retake the lead, but the Cavs regained it in the bottom of the inning via a pair of RBI walks with the bases loaded.
- The score stood until the sixth when Chowan tied the game with a RBI double.
Abagail Mills broke the tie in the bottom of the inning when she singled up the middle, scoring
Taylor Clay. She then scored an insurance run of her own when
Kaylynn Baker doubled to right center.
- Seven different Cavaliers had a hit apiece, while
Adyson Gibson and
Taylor Clay each scored two runs. Mills,
Emma McCauley and
Jessica Clark accounted for the other runs.

Bayleigh Allison got the win and improved her record to 2-1 on the season. She went 2.1 innings, allowing one run off of four hits and fanning three Hawk batters.
Jillian Jones entered the game in the seventh inning to earn her second save of the season.
GAME TWO – Cedarville vs. UVA Wise
- Clay, Gibson,
Lindsey Polan, and Baker all scored in the bottom of the first, giving the Cavs the 4-0 lead.
- Cedarville scored in the top of the fifth inning via a sacrifice fly.
- Three more Cavaliers scored in the bottom of the fifth and then loaded the bases. Baker then singled up the middle, scoring McCauley and ending the game.
- Gibson led the team with three hits and a run. Polan,
Savannah Johnson, and
Mataya Ausmus each added in two hits apiece, while Clay, Baker and McCauley added a hit each. Nine different players scored.
- Jones went the distance, allowing only one run off of seven hits and moving her season record to 2-1.
UP NEXT
The team will face Virginia State in a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 1 p.m. They will then face Cedarville in a doubleheader on Monday also starting at 1 p.m.
