ANDERSON, SC -- Anderson used a strong defensive game to stifle the UVA Wise offense as the Trojans picked up the 50-7 South Atlantic Conference victory Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After an opening drive by UVA Wise stalled, Anderson quickly moved down the field with a 50-yard run by Bryson James, leading to an 18-yard touchdown run by Tyler Wesley. The Trojans would capitalize on other opportunities in the quarter, scoring two more touchdowns. After another UVA Wise drive stalled, key tackles by
Jimmie Simmons and
Brub Hines III helped hold AU to a 20-yard field goal by Elijah Swett to go ahead 24-0. That score stood at the half.
- Anderson extended their lead to open the third quarter, as Wesley connected with Jalon Warthen-Carr for a 7-yard touchdown pass,. The Cavaliers responded promptly on their next possession with a 60-yard touchdown pass from Corkren to
Peyton McClanahan. They then held the Trojans to a three-and-out on their next drive to end the third quarter trailing 31-7.
- The fourth quarter began with Anderson capitalizing on a 36-yard pass completion, setting up a short touchdown run soon after. The Cavs' defense responded with pressure, highlighted by Scott forcing a fumble, although Anderson recovered and extended their lead soon afterwards. The next two Cavalier possessions resulted in turnovers and scores by Anderson, and a late Trojan field goal extended the lead to 50-7 as AU went on to take the win.
GETTING WISE
-Corkren completed 12 of 30 passes for 145 yards and one touchdown while also recording one interception.
- McClanahan made an impact with three receptions totaling 67 yards, including one touchdown catch.
- Matthew Strong contributed defensively by recovering a fumble and tallying six tackles. Scott added six tackles and forced a fumble, strengthening the defensive effort.

The Highland Cavaliers will return to the friendly confines of Beaty-Richmond Field at Carl Smith Stadium to host South Carolina Central Christian College next weekend. Kick-off is set for 3 p.m.
