ROCK HILL, SC – After a stellar performance against Division I FCS Presbyterian College Thursday evening, UVA Wise quarterback
McCalan Beason has been named the WePlayed Sports South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week. The conference office made the announcement Monday afternoon.
Beason, a redshirt freshman from Gardendale, Alabama, had one of the best games by a UVA Wise Quarterback in the program's NCAA era, if not ever, as he not only went 20-42-1 for 338 yards and three touchdowns in the air, but also ran 16 times for 98 yards and two additional touchdowns.
The last time a Highland Cavalier Quarterback ran for more than 90 yards was 92 by Ty Ryans in a 16-13 win at West Virginia State on Oct. 25, 2014. The last Cav QB to account for more than five touchdowns was six by Landon Redwine vs VU-Lynchburg on Sept. 4, 2021 (all were TD passes) and the last one to rush for two TDs was
Jake Corkren vs. Erskine on Oct. 21, 2023
Beason's previous best game was last season at Mars Hill, when he went 15-32-0 for 293 yards and two touchdowns.
This is the first Player of the Week honor for Beason, and the first for the Cavs since
Daniel Thomas earned the honor last year on Sept. 29.
The Cavs will next take the field this Saturday when they play Chowan in the home opener at 6 p.m.
