Anderson First Half Scoring Surge Powers Trojans to 39-21 Win Over UVA Wise

WISE --  UVA Wise fell to Anderson 39-21 on Saturday in a South Atlantic Conference Homecoming matchup at Carl Smith Stadium.

The Cavaliers were held scoreless in the first half before scoring seven points in the third quarter and 14 in the fourth quarter.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter

- The Cavaliers' defense opened by forcing a punt, with Jalin Edwards sacking Wilson Edwards and DaShaun Gibson breaking up a third-down pass.
- Anderson put together a 12-play, 73-yard drive, converting four third downs before Edwards found Zay Williams for a 21-yard touchdown at 4:35. The extra point failed, leaving the Trojans ahead 6-0.
- Thomas McCoy returned the ensuing kickoff 28 yards, and the Cavs moved into Trojan territory behind McCalan Beason completions to Elijah Thompson and Hunter Purdue before the quarter ended with Anderson leading 6-0.
 
Second Quarter
- Thomas Sapp's 33-yard punt pinned Anderson at their nine yard line, and the Cavaliers later held on downs at the Wise 35 when Davion Jackson hurried an incomplete fourth-down pass at 6:07.
- Daniel Thomas helped the Highland Cavaliers move across midfield with four carries for 21 yards and two first downs, but the drive stalled after a 25-yard loss and a punt.
- Anderson drove 72 yards in the final 2:11, with Wilson Edwards completing a 2-yard touchdown pass to Rob Sanders at :14 before Ross Burnette's kick made it 13-0.
 
Third Quarter
- After the Cavs punted on their opening possession, Anderson (SC) drove 75 yards and scored on Wilson Edwards' 4-yard pass to Darron Parry at 9:16; the missed kick left the Trojans ahead 19-0.
- The Cavaliers answered with a four-play, 61-yard drive, highlighted by Beason's 45-yard run and capped by Beason's 10-yard touchdown pass to Thomas McCoy at 7:29. Aiden Magee's extra point made it 19-7.
- Anderson put together a 78-yard drive on the next series, using a 24-yard completion to Lennix Valarie and a penalty to reach the Wise 11 before Parr Folsom scored on a 3-yard run at 2:20.
- The Highland Cavaliers moved across midfield late in the quarter on Beason's 36-yard completion to Evan Kennedy, and the quarter ended with the Cavaliers at the Anderson 38 and the Trojans ahead 26-7.
 
Fourth Quarter
- Evan Kennedy's 11-yard catch and 25-yard run moved the Cavs inside the 1, and Beason followed with a 1-yard touchdown before Magee's PAT made it 26-14. Anderson answered with Wilson Edwards' 43-yard fourth-down touchdown pass to Lennix Valarie at 9:49, and Ross Burnette's PAT moved the score to 33-14.
- The Cavaliers put together a 13-play, 75-yard drive from there, converting on Evan Kennedy's 6-yard fourth-down rush and Purdue's 23-yard reception before Beason scored on a 6-yard run at 3:46. Magee's extra point made it 33-21.
- After the Trojans punted the Highland Cavaliers back to their 3 with 2:00 left, Beason helped move the Cavaliers to the Anderson 33 before Cade Eavenson sacked him, recovered the fumble and returned it 54 yards for a touchdown at :10. Anderson finished with a 39-21 win.

GETTING WISE
- Beason completed 21 of 31 passes for 208 yards and one touchdown and added two rushing touchdowns. Purdue caught a team-high six passes for 75 yards. Evan Kennedy rushed four times for 44 yards and added four receptions for 60 yards. Thomas McCoy finished with three catches for 38 yards and a touchdown.
- Anderson finished with 413 yards and 25 first downs, with 308 yards coming through the passing game, while the Highland Cavaliers totaled 208 passing yards and 105 rushing yards.
- The Cavs converted 8 of 13 third downs and scored on all three red-zone trips, but Anderson went 10 of 15 on third down, 4-for-4 in the red zone and held a 34:13 to 25:47 advantage in time of possession.
