Andrew Sharpe Joins Men's Basketball Coaching Staff

WISE – The UVA Wise men's basketball program has announced that Andrew Sharpe has joined the staff as an assistant coach.

Sharpe, a native of Gate City, Virginia, joins the staff after spending the 2024-25 season on the staff at Emory & Henry.

He also is a skills trainer for HoopMVMT, which is a training center based in Johnson City, Tennessee, that helps train basketball players of all levels in group and one-on-one sessions. During the year Sharpe also helps coach at numerous camps and clinics across the country.

He played for Gate City High School and spent two seasons at Southwest Virginia Community College before transferring to ETSU, where he was a scout player for the men's basketball team. After graduating from ETSU with a degree in Sports Management, he spent time as a graduate assistant there before joining the Emory & Henry Staff.

When asked about coming to Wise, Sharpe said he is looking forward for "The opportunity to continue to learn and grow as a coach under Coach Mellinger and be able to stay close to home and coach in an area where I grew up playing."

Sharpe and the rest of the staff are hard at work preparing for the upcoming season, which begins on November 1 at 11 a.m. when the Highland Cavaliers take on Lubbock Christian in the Small College Hall of Fame Classic in Lakeland, Florida. That game will literally open the 2025-26 season for the NCAA Division II as it will be the first game in the country played by Division II schools.
