Patrick Shelley became the newest member of the UVA Wise 1,000 point club Saturday afternoon, but a late first-half run by Catawba proved to be too much for the team to overcome as they fell 91-69 to the Catawba Indians in the regular season finale.
The teams will face each other in five days as both earned berths in the South Atlantic Conference Tournament, which will be held in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first half began with the Cavaliers gaining an early lead through a fastbreak dunk by
Evan Ramsey at 19:10, assisted by
Patrick Shelley. Catawba responded with a layup by Carson Daniel at 17:25, leveling the score. The teams traded leads throughout the half, with Ramsey contributing multiple baskets for the Cavs, including another dunk at 16:18.
Patrick Shelley, who had entered the night with 999 career points, picked up number 1,000 on a free throw with 15:48 remaining in the half. However, Catawba pulled ahead with a series of successful fastbreaks off of Cavalier turnovers, highlighted by a layup from Nick Walker at the 36-second mark, assisted by Chase Daniel. The half ended with Catawba leading 40-29.
- Catawba outscored the Highland Cavaliers 51-40 in the second half to secure a decisive 91-69 victory. The half saw Catawba's Justin Banks play a key role, contributing with both a 3-pointer at the 6:19 mark and multiple layups. Despite strong efforts from UVA Wise's
Yoro Diallo and Shelley, who combined for several key plays, Catawba maintained control throughout. Chase Daniel's consistent performance, highlighted by his assists and scoring, kept Catawba in the lead as the game concluded with Ibra Athie's tip-in to finalize the 91-69 score.

Calen Lightford were honored before the game.

Patrick Shelley had ten points to finish the evening with 1,009 for his career. He also had six steals and four assists.

Cy Hardy had a career-high 17 points, shooting 7-12 from the field.

Evan Ramsey had another double-double as he had 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Yoro Diallo scored eight points and had five rebounds, while
Kolier Pruett added in five points.
