WISE – The UVA Wise football team continues their two-game road swing to open the season as they make the short trip to Athens, West Virginia, to face the Concord Mountain Lions Saturday at 3 p.m.
This is the first meeting between UVA Wise and Concord since September 15, 2018.

JUST LIKE OLD TIMES
- The teams were rivals when the Highland Cavaliers were in the Mountain East Conference due to their relative proximity to each other compared to other MEC schools.
- Saturday's matchup will be the eleventh meeting between the two schools and the first since 2007 where this is not a conference game.
- Concord leads the series 6-4 and are 4-2 vs. UVA Wise in Athens.
- The Cavs won the last meeting on Sept. 15, 2018. They were led by Tanner Bernard's 24-30 passing performance for 290 yards and three touchdowns. Eight of those passes were to Kaian Duverger as he had eight catches for 173 yards and three touchdowns.
OFFENSE
- After playing a FCS opponent last week in their 61-0 loss at ETSU, it's back to the Division II ranks for the Cavs in their final non-conference matchup of the season.

Jake Corkren was 8-45 for 59 yards and
Cooper Wick was 2-3 for 25 yards against a tough ETSU defense.

Dejauvis Dozier had eleven carries for 19 yards and Ian Scammel carried 12 times for 18 yards.

DJ Powell led the receiving corps with 3 catches for 47 yards.

Brub Hines III led the defense with five tackles. Five other Cavs had four tackles apiece.

Jake Marcantel had 12 punts for 444 yards, including a 66 yard punt.
WE C-U MOUNTAIN LIONS
- Concord lost their season opener to Mercer County rival Bluefield State as the Big Blue scored 16 unanswered points in the second quarter on the way to a 22-13 win over the Mountain Lions.
- They were led by TJ Finney's 137 rushing yards on eight carries.
- Blayne Ferguson was 19-30 for 207 yards with Jakari Clark being his favorite receiver as Clark had six receptions for 75 yards.
- Nehemiah Scott had nine tackles to lead the Mountain Lions, with 1.5 tackles being for loss. Ryjer Brown and Khwan Mickens each had seven tackles apiece.
