DANVILLE, KY – The UVA Wise track & field teams had a successful Saturday in the Centre College First Chance Meet as they had three first place finishes, thirteen top five finishes, and thirteen top ten (sixth through tenth place) finishes; all while shattering a combined nine school records.
This is the first full meet of the 2024-25 indoor season in which all athletes competed, and also marks the best overall performance at a meet in the young program's history.
On the men's side,
Caleb Yeary had a big day as he set two new school records as he placed first in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.51 seconds. He also set a new school record in the 60 meter dash preliminary round with a time of 6.89, good enough for second place. Both are also personal bests. He later finished second in the 60 meter dash finals with a time of 6.94.
Francis Roberts also set a new school and personal record in the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.78, placing second in the event.
Hunter Garrett placed fifth in the pole vault with a height of 3.40 meters, and
Tre Terry finished fifth in the long jump with a personal best jump of 5.95 meters.
Abel Dingus placed sixth in the 60 meter hurdles with a 10.31 time, followed by
Landon Bishop in seventh with a 10.55 time. Both were personal bests.
Avone Noel also had a personal best height of 3.20 meters in the pole vault to place sixth, and
Bennett Estremera place sixth in the high jump with a height of 1.80 meters.
Bobby Cline finished second in the weight throw with a personal best throw of 14.19 meters. He also finished twelfth in the shot put with a throw of 11.82 meters.
The women had a very successful day as they won two events and had six new school records set.
Nia Rogers set a new school and personal record as she won the weight throw with a distance of 14.39 meters, while
Olyvia Fleming was fifth with an 11.92 meter throw.
Emma Dingus placed seventh with an 11.21 meter throw, while
Emma Gibson finished just behind her in seventh with 10.86. Both of those were personal bests.
Emma Bobbitt placed tenth in the event with a 10.10 meter throw, and
Mady Buchanan was eleventh with 9.11 meters.
Braelynn Strouth placed first in the triple jump with a jump of 11.85 meters, also a personal best and new school record.
Raegan Cox was just behind her in second with a personal record 10.23 meter jump, and
Kylie Brodt was fourth with 9.86 meters.
Cox also placed third in the high jump with a jump of 1.45 meters, and was seventh in the long jump with a jump of 4.72 meters.
Rogers threw a shot put for 11.47 meters to place fourth, while Fleming placed seventh with a 9.51m throw. Bobbitt (9.39m) was eighth, and Gibson (8.36m) was twelfth.
Buchanan placed sixth in the pole vault with a height of 2.65 meters.
In track events,
Madison Outland was third in the 60 meter dash with a school record and personal best time of 7.90. She also placed second in the preliminary heat with a time of 7.95.
Madison Sutherland placed fifth in the event with her time of 7.12, just barely off her 7.12 personal record she set in the preliminaries.
Haley Faulkner had a similar outing as she had a personal best time of 8.17 in the preliminary heat and a time of 8.24 in the finals, where she finished in eighth place.
Paige Phillips placed third in the 60 meter hurdles with her 9.83 school and personal record time, while Strouth had a new personal record with 9.94 in the event, placing sixth.
In the 200 meter dash, Faulker placed sixth with a school record and personal best time of 26.87, while Outland was seventh with 26.97. Sutherland was eighth with a personal best time of 26.98.
Another school record fell in the 400 meter dash as Faulkner ran 1:02.16 for a personal best and a fourth place finish. Brodt was tenth with a new personal record 1:07.84 time.
In the 800 meter event,
Nicole Poston finished seventh with a time of 3:09.23, and
Alexsis Porter placed seventh with a time of 11:41.06.

The teams will be off until the VMI Invitational, which will be held on January 24-25, 2025 in Lexington, Virginia.
