BOBCATS SWIPE TWO FROM CAVS

WISE — UVA Wise found momentum from an Abagail Mills grand slam in game two of the twin bill, but came up short in 8-1/10-7 defeats at Cavalier Field on Wednesday, April 5.

A 13-hit day was the demise for the Cavaliers (8-26) in game one, beginning with a A. West single to right field that scored two in the top of the second inning.

The Bobcats (21-13) would scatter in six more runs in the contest, including a huge three-run blast from J. Gast in the top of the seventh.

M. Powell hurled in 11 strikeouts on the day, keeping UVA Wise scoreless until the bottom of the seventh when Bayleigh Allison pushed one out of the park to get her squad on the board.

Joining Allison in the hit column would be Sarah Barrett (1) and Mallory McKnight (1).

In game two, Lees-McRae jumped out to a two-run lead due to another Powell homer. The Bobcats added another two to the board before the Cavaliers snagged a run due to a fielding error.

The Bobcats seemed to have full control in the third inning before Abagail Mills reached the plate. The sophomore smashed her first grandslam of her career to tie the game 6-6.

G. Buckner sparked momentum back into the Lees-McRae dugout when she responded with a solo homer to centerfield. E. Jackson added to the damage with another solo homer soon after to jump to an 8-6 lead before Alivia Nolley retired the side.

Kara Long fired back with a dinger to cut the deficit to one run, but that would be the only Cavalier to cross home plate for the rest of the contest. A run each in the fifth and the sixth would seal the 10-7 Bobcat win.

Up next, UVA Wise will face King in a non-conference doubleheader at Cavalier Field on Tuesday, April 11 at 3 PM.
