UVA WISE NOTES
The UVA Wise Cavaliers look to finish off their regular season with a win as they take on the Carson-Newman Eagles on Friday, Nov. 4.
The Cavaliers are coming off a history-making win on Tuesday, Nov. 1 against conference competitor Lincoln Memorial who they haven't defeated since September of 1996 (26 years). With the win, the Cavaliers sit at a 6-17 overall record - the volleyball program's best record since 2017.
Kaylee Scarce leads the team in total kills (188) and total digs (182) on the season, while Cassidy Farley leads with 62 total blocks and is ranked eleventh in the league in the category.
"I think we finally saw it all come together on Tuesday night," said Head Coach Alyssa Hanley. "This team has so much potential and talent ... we came away with teh sweep because we had players chipping in from all angles." Listen to more from Coach Hanley in her recap interview here.
CARSON-NEWMAN NOTES
This will be the second meeting for the Cavaliers and Carson-Newman in the 2022 season. In their last meeting, Carson-Newman defeated UVA Wise by a score of 3-0 (25-8, 25-19, 25-14).
Carson-Newman has maintained a hefty lead in the Mountain division of the SAC, sitting at a 10-1 divisional record and a 15-2 conference record. Their only league losses come from Mars Hill (Sep. 13, 0-3) and then-ranked #21 Wingate (Oct. 14, 1-3). As of Nov. 3, the Eagles have paved a four-win streak with victories over Georgia College, Mars Hill, Limestone, and Emory & Henry. With their performance, the squad ranks third in the Division II Southeast Region Rankings.

EAGLES: PLAYERS TO WATCH
Julia Wheeler: ranks first in conference standings in kills per set (4.45) and total kills on the year (441). Wheeler leads the Eagles with a whopping 475.5 points on the season.
Blake Cherry: ranks fourth in the conference in service aces per set (0.44). Named SAC Defensive POtW on Oct. 31.
