WISE -- UVA Wise picked up a big South Atlantic Conference victory as they defeated Southwest Virginia rival Emory & Henry 3-0 on Tuesday, winning 25-15, 25-15 and 25-12. The Cavaliers hit .467 with 50 kills and seven attack errors, while holding Emory & Henry to a .067 percentage and 23 kills.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Cavaliers opened the first set with kills by Annabelle Dowell, Skye Williams and Dowell again, all from Olivia Amos, for a 3-0 lead, and continued to stay in front as Riley Brandon and Maggy Sechrist helped push the margin to 10-5. Emory & Henry traded points through the middle of the set, with Tori Boling, Alexis Dietterick and Carmen Pelto contributing kills, but the Cavs kept the separation and reached 16-10 on Dowell's kill from Amos. With Dowell serving, the Cavaliers took the next four points on a Mable James kill, two Brandon kills and a James block, and after a Wasp point, a Brandon kill and another James block helped move the set to 23-11. Emory & Henry delayed the finish with four late points, but Amos put the Cavs at 24-13 with a kill from Mia Bradley and Williams closed the 25-15 set with a kill from Amos.
 
The Cavaliers built an early 5-1 lead in the second set behind three kills from Mable James, a Skye Williams service ace and a Sechrist kill. Emory & Henry cut the margin to 9-7 with a Tori Boling ace and a Mollee Cutshall kill, but Annabelle Dowell answered with a kill before Sechrist served four straight Cavaliers points, including an ace and two Skye Williams kills, to push the lead to 14-7. Emory & Henry got back to 14-10, but the Cavs kept the cushion with kills from Williams, James, Sechrist and Riley Brandon before Abigail Curtis served an ace and Sechrist and Dowell combined on a block for a 22-14 lead. Dowell had two kills in the final stretch, including the set-ending point, as the Cavaliers closed the set 25-15.
 
UVA Wise started the third set with three straight points, including an Amos kill from Abigail Curtis and a Curtis service ace, before the Wasps worked back to a 4-4 tie. The Cavs moved back in front with blocks involving Mable James and Riley Brandon, kills from Annabelle Dowell and Skye Williams, and a Riley Brandon ace to build a 13-7 advantage. After Emory & Henry cut it to 13-9, Dowell's kill gave the serve back to Curtis, and the Cavaliers scored the next five points on two Curtis aces and three Wasp attack errors to stretch the lead to 19-9. Mia Bradley supplied four kills among the Cavaliers' final five points, including the last two, as the Cavaliers finished the set 25-12.

GETTING WISE
- Annabelle Dowell led the Cavaliers with 12 kills while hitting .846 and added one block assist.
- Amos recorded 40 assists, seven digs and two kills.
- Abigail Curtis finished with 19 digs and four service aces.
- Mable James tallied eight kills on a .583 hitting percentage and led the team with five total blocks.
 
UP NEXT
The Cavaliers will have a two game SAC road swing this weekend. First they will travel down US 58 to Harrogate, Tennessee, to face Lincoln Memorial Friday evening at 6 p.m. Then they will face Carson-Newman in Jefferson City Saturday at 2 p.m.
