Alyssa Hanley was named the eleventh women's volleyball coach in UVA Wise history on January 4, 2022.

The Denton, Texas, native came to Wise after five seasons at Schreiner University and took over a program that had seen limited success over the previous seasons due to the double whammy of the school transitioning to the South Atlantic Conference from the Mountain East Conference while also dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic.

Her impact was immediate as they rolled out to a 3-0 start and later picked up the program's first SAC win in a sweep of Coker University. They later picked up a second SAC win over local rival Lincoln Memorial University. The team finished the season with six wins, tying for the most since 2016.

The 2023 saw the team build on the previous season as they improved their win total over the previous season despite several key injuries hampering the team most of the season.

Hanley more than tripled the Schreiner volleyball team's wins each season she was head coach of the Mountaineers, and qualified for the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) tournament in Spring 2020 for the first time in over eight years. In addition, Hanley produced at least one All-SCAC athlete each season.

Prior to her coaching career at Schreiner, Hanley was a graduate assistant at Concord University where she graduated with a master's degree in Health Promotion. Alongside earning her degree, Hanley helped produce three All-Mountain East Conference (MEC) selections as well as collect 18 wins, which is the most wins for the program since 2002.

Hanley also spent one year as an assistant coach at Missouri Southern State University during the 2016-2017 volleyball season. At Missouri Southern State, she aided in coaching five Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Honor Roll selections and one Honorable Mention selection, as well as tripled the program's wins from the 2015-2016 season.

She also coached volleyball club teams in Texas in 2010-11 and 2013-14.

Hanley also was a standout player in high school and college.  In high school, she led Guyer High School to a 28-12 record and a district championship during her senior season in 2008. After graduating from Guyer in 2009, Hanley went on to play at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette.

In her freshman season, Hanley saw action in four matches while recording 21 digs and 14 kills as an outside hitter for the Ragin’ Cajuns.

Hanley then elected to transfer to West Texas A&M to continue her playing career as a sophomore. However, a back injury hampered her year and eventually led to the end of her collegiate career. She graduated from West Texas A&M in 2013 with a degree in mass communications.

Off the court, Hanley served as an Athletic Marketing and Promotions intern at West Texas A&M in the fall of 2011 as well as the Louisiana-Lafayette baseball team's videographer for the 2010 season.
