UVa-Wise Visits Urbana Looking to Secure First Winning Season Since '08

WISE - - Looking to secure its first winning season since 2008, UVa-Wise travels to Urbana, Ohio Saturday to face the Urbana University Blue Knights.

Last week, UVa-Wise (5-3, 4-3 MEC) saw its four-game winning streak stopped by Fairmont State while Urbana (3-5, 2-5 MEC) pulled out a 35-34 road win at the University of Charleston.  The win was the second in three games for the Blue Knights who will be looking to take a 2-1 lead in the all-time series against the Cavs Saturday.

Urbana used the arm and legs of quarterback Tajuan Green for the 35-point outburst.  Green passed for 323 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 88 yards and two more scores. The signal caller saw two of his receivers eclipse 100 yards receivng as Cam Snow caught five passes for 165 yards with two TDs while Trevon Saunders finished with six catches for 108 yards and a TD.

Junior linebacker Josh Dillard led the Blue Knights' defense with 10 tackles, a sack and what proved to be the game-winning
interception late in the fourth quarter. Dillard is one of three Urbana players to rank inside MEC's top ten in tackles. Teammate Carlton Rematt ranks third in the league with 80 stops, Dillard is fifth with 72 tackles and Duray Hall has 63 stops to rank ninth in the league. The trio of linebackers have produced more tackles than any other threesome in the MEC.

UVa-Wise defensive back Ed Kargbo is on some kind of streak. The junior has a team-leading four INTs and has a pick in each of his team's last three games. Kargbo has been named MEC Defensive Player of the Week during the stretch and has the third most INTs of all players in the conference.

Senior linebacker Zachary Blair continues to etch his name in school history. The Front Royal native posted his third double digit tackle performance of the season with ten against Fairmont State. With 2.5 TFLs in the loss, he now has a league-leading 14.5.

Senior placekicker Trent Martin provided the only points of the game for the Cavs last week when he made a 29-yarder in the third quarter. The successful attempt gives Martin 21 made field goals in his career, a UVa-Wise record.

While a victory would give the Cavs their first winning season since 2008, it would also mark the first time sine 2008 the program won at least four road games. Thus far, UVa-Wise is 3-1 in games away from Carl Smith Stadium. The team's average margin of victory in those three wins is just two points. In its last road game, UVa-Wise blocked a would be game-winning field goal with less than a minute to play to knock off West Liberty 28-27.

Next week, the Cavs return home to face the Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan in a noon kickoff. The Blue Knights are on the road at Notre Dame College.
