WISE - -
Saturday will mark the inagurual home Mountain East Conference football game for UVa-Wise.  Today, the Cavaliers welcome the Golden Eagles from the University of Charleston.

The two schools enter today's game with identical 0-2 records.  UVa-Wise dropped back-to-back games on the road to start its first season in the MEC.  Likewise, Charleston has lost consecutive road games to open its season.  UVa-Wise enters the game 0-1 in the MEC, it will be the first MEC game for Charleston who has already completed its non-conference schedule.

The Eagles were a preseason pick to compete for the first ever MEC crown.  Head Coach Pat Kirkland's Charleston squad posted a 9-2 mark in 2012 and were second in the MEC Coaches Poll that was released prior to the start of the season.  Thus far, Charleston has relied on the legs of quarterback John Knox.  Knox has rushed for 76 yards on 26 carries in the first two games of 2013.  As a team, the Eagles have rushed the ball 63 times for 139 yards.  Knox and Maurice Leak have split time at quarterback and have completed 26 of 45 attempts for 181 yards.

The Cavs enter the game in search of some consistency.  A week ago, UVa-Wise trailed West Virginia Wesleyan 10-7 mid-way through the third quarter before six turnovers eventually doomed Dewey Lusk's club.  Cullen LaVoi, Jeremy Eubank, and Ty Ryans have all seen time under center and the team has seen some success in targeting wide receivers James Long and Terrence Younger. Long won MEC Player of the Week after week one when he caught four passes for 116 yards and had an 88-yard kickoff return for touchdown.  In total, Long has eclipsed the 200 yard receiving mark on the season.  Younger has caught two touchdown passes and more than 150 receiving yards through two games.

On defense, the Cavs are allowing 46.5 points per game while the Eagles are allowing 37.5 points per game.
