Wise, Virginia -  Each week during the 2012 football season, UVa-Wise will honor someone associated with the campus community as an honorary captain.  This week the captain is former basketball coach and UVa-Wise Hall of Fame member Preston Mitchell.

Mitchell earned his bachelor's degree from The Citadel before earning a master's degree in education from Radford University.  Later, Mitchell added a master's degree in history from East Tennessee State University.  The coach has been associated with the college since 1989; in that time, Mitchell has coached both the men's and women's basketball programs where he won more than 100 games.  In addition, he has served as a full-time and adjunct professor where he has taught education and history classes.

Mitchell is married to Pat Baumgartner; the honorary captain has two children Ashley, a 2000 graduate of UVa-Wise, and Joe.
