Softball Drops Doubeleader at Wingate

WINGATE, NC – UVA Wise had three hits in each game but were unable to get anyone across the plate as they fell at Wingate in a pair of 8-0 contests Saturday afternoon.

GAME ONE
- The Bulldogs opening the scoring in the second inning. Macie Tillman singled to shortstop before stealing second and eventually scoring on Paisley Boatright's groundout, giving the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead.
- Wingate extended its lead significantly in the third inning. Damyia McFadden and Kaylee Hobgood both scored following a series of plays, including a single and a throwing error. The inning continued with RBI singles from Addy Higginbotham, Boatright, and Madison Dixon, bringing the score to 6-0 in favor of the Bulldogs.
- In the sixth inning, pinch hitter Kaylee Furr hit a double to left center, driving in two runs and solidifying Wingate's position at 8-0.
- The Cavaliers were unable to score throughout the game, and the final score was UVA Wise 0, Wingate 8.
- Chloe Murphy pitched 2 innings, allowing 4 hits and 3 runs, of which 2 were earned, without issuing any walks or striking out any batters. Murphy threw 41 pitches, with 27 going for strikes, and was charged with a hit by pitch. Bayleigh Allison entered in relief, pitching 3 1/3 innings, surrendering 8 hits and 5 earned runs while striking out 1 and walking 2. Allison threw a total of 74 pitches, with 36 recorded as strikes.
- Lindsey Polan recorded a hit in her appearance, contributing to the team's offensive efforts. Taylor Clay showed patience at the plate, drawing two walks and being hit by a pitch.

GAME TWO
- UVA Wise faced Wingate in a game marked by a decisive sixth inning. The early innings were quiet, with neither team scoring through the first three innings. In the fourth inning, Wingate's Lily Huneycutt homered to right center, bringing in the first run of the game.
- The sixth inning saw a significant shift in momentum. Wingate's offense unleashed a series of hits, beginning with a single by Kaylee Hobgood and a follow-up single by Damyia McFadden. Huneycutt then hit a three-run homer to left field, extending the lead. Additional scoring plays included an RBI single by Reagan Simmons and an RBI double by Jillian Thomas. The Bulldogs scored seven runs in the inning, increasing their lead to 8-0.
- The Cavs were unable to respond offensively, resulting in a final score of Wingate 8, UVA Wise 0.
- Angelina Branch pitched 5 innings for the Highland Cavaliers, allowing 6 hits and 5 earned runs while striking out one batter. She faced a challenge from Wingate's lineup, surrendering two home runs over the course of her outing. Olivia Shockley entered in relief, pitching 2/3 inning, during which she gave up 3 hits and 2 earned runs. Shockley also issued one walk and hit a batter, contributing to the scoring pressure.
Adyson Gibson recorded two hits in the game, contributing significantly to the team's offensive efforts. Kennedy Miller added to the hit tally with one of her own, making an impact in the lineup.
