SPARKS, MD – The UVA Wise women's lacrosse team has been listed as one of the five Also Considered teams in the latest USA Lacrosse Magazine Division II Top 20 Poll, which was released earlier today.
The Also Considered teams were listed alphabetically, so those teams can be considered as all tied for 21st in the nation in the poll, which is conducted by USA Lacrosse Magazine with assistance from coaches around the country.
This is the first time that the Highland Cavaliers have been listed in the USA Lacrosse Poll, and the second time they have have been listed in a national poll as they were listed in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association poll in February of 2023.
They are having a good year statistically as they are currently fourth in the NCAA Division II in caused turnovers per game (14.33) and ground balls per game (24.83). They also lead the SAC in that category. The team is also sixth nationally in scoring defense (7.25) and eighth in assists per game (8.58).
Addie Donalson, who was named the SAC Defensive Player of the Week earlier today, ranks fifth nationally in goals-against average (7.56) and
Caitlyn Schultz is eighth in total goals with 44.
The team is currently 11-1 overall and 5-0 in South Atlantic Conference play, both firsts for the program, which is in its twelfth season. They have also won seven straight games, which is the second longest winning streak in program history, trailing the eight game streak the 2018 team had by one game.
They have spent the last month on the road and finally return home to Carl Smith Stadium when they host local rival Lincoln Memorial Wednesday at 3 p.m.
