HARTSVILLE, SC – The UVA Wise lacrosse team remained undefeated in South Atlantic Conference play and also improved to 9-1 on the season as they held their eighth team this season to less than ten points (and their fifth with five or less points) as they defeated Coker 11-4 Thursday afternoon.
The 9-1 start is the best in program history, with the second best being 11-2 in the 2016 season. That year the they had five and six game winning streaks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first quarter began with the Highland Cavaliers establishing an early advantage.
Caitlyn Schultz opened the scoring at 13:25, assisted by
Noley Hiller, following a successful draw control by
Alexis Hilstrom. Just moments later,
Logen Davis extended the lead to 2-0 with another goal at 12:42, this time assisted by Schultz. The Cobras responded with a timeout and soon after, Olivia Buchanan scored at 5:12 to reduce the deficit to 2-1. However, the Cavs regained momentum with Hiller scoring a goal at 00:39, assisted by Schultz, concluding the quarter with a 3-1 lead. Both teams displayed solid defensive efforts, with goalkeepers

- The Cavs extended their lead in the second quarter with two goals, maintaining strong offensive pressure.

Parker Cribbs added to the tally with another goal at 13:11. Despite multiple attempts by the Cobras, including a shot from Mia MacMillan that hit the post at 1:35, the Cavaliers' defense, highlighted by turnovers caused by players like
Jaylah Gray and
Mia Potter, kept the Cobras scoreless in the quarter. Olivia Schmidt made several saves to keep the Cobras in the game, but turnovers hindered their offensive progress. The half ended with the Cavaliers leading 5-1.

Caitlyn Schultz opened the scoring for the Cavaliers in the third quarter with a player-up goal at 12:22, assisted by
Logen Davis. The Cobras responded with a goal from Kate Halcro at 7:16, assisted by Grace Miranda, narrowing the deficit.
Kaylea Paterson restored a two-goal advantage for the Highland Cavaliers with a free position goal at 5:49. The Cobras struggled with possession, committing multiple turnovers, while the Cavaliers effectively cleared the ball and maintained pressure, ending the third quarter with a 7-2 lead.

Issie Brown and
Caitlyn Schultz each added goals, with Schultz scoring twice, extending the Cavaliers' lead. The Cobras managed goals from Kate Halcro and Grace Miranda, but it was not enough to close the gap. The quarter concluded with a score of 11-4 in favor of the Highland Cavaliers, as they maintained control through effective draw controls and caused turnovers.
