YOUNG HARRIS, GA – The UVA Wise lacrosse team continued their program-record hot start to the season as they surged ahead in the second quarter to win over Young Harris 14-9 Wednesday afternoon.
The win improves the team to 8-1 on the season and is their first-ever win at Young Harris in four games there. They are now 2-6 all time vs. the Mountain Lions.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cavs opened the scoring at 9:06 with
Noley Hiller finding the back of the net. The Mountain Lions responded shortly with a free position goal by Erika Baalam at 6:56, tying the game. However, UVA Wise regained and extended its lead with goals from
Samantha Sobolewski, assisted by
Mia Potter, at 3:03, and
Abby Schrafft, assisted by Hiller, at 00:33, ending the quarter 3-1 in their favor.
- UVA Wise extended its lead in the second quarter as they outscored YHC 5-2. Hiller scored back-to-back goals at 13:05 and 11:54, with assists from Schrafft and
Taylor Thompson, respectively.
Caitlyn Schultz and
Issie Brown each added to the tally with goals at 10:51 and 9:56, the latter assisted by Hiller. Sobolewski capitalized on a free position shot at 8:25, making it five consecutive goals for the Highland Cavaliers. The Mountain Lions responded with goals from Riley Parker at 7:43 and Sydney Craig at 6:29, but effective clear attempts and saves by Donalson helped maintain the visiting team's advantage. The half concluded with a score of 8-3 in favor of UVA Wise.
- In the third quarter, UVA Wise capitalized on a woman-up opportunity, with Schultz scoring early at 14:20. Young Harris responded quickly, with Craig netting a goal at 13:37, assisted by Mary Troyer. Hiller extended the lead for the Cavs at 10:39, assisted by Sobolewski. Addison Heiser added to Young Harris's tally with a goal at 09:03, assisted by Kayla Lynn. Camille Curry then scored for Young Harris at 06:48, bringing the score to 10-6. Following a timeout, UVA Wise regained momentum, with Sobolewski scoring at 05:50, assisted by Schultz, and Schrafft adding another goal at 01:47, again assisted by Schultz, ending the quarter with a 12-6 lead for UVA Wise.
- Young Harris narrowed the gap early in the fourth quarter with a man-up goal by Baalam, assisted by Troyer, at 9:23. The Highland Cavaliers responded swiftly, as Schultz netted a goal at 8:46, assisted by Hiller. The Mountain Lions continued to pressure, with Troyer scoring a free position goal at 4:57, followed by another free position goal from Parker at 3:55. Schultz added another for the Cavs at 3:07, as the visitors maintained their lead. Despite a late push from Young Harris, including a shot by Schultz that hit the crossbar in the final minute, the Cavs secured the 14-9 victory.
