Weather Causes Changes To Weekend Home Games

WISE -- The lingering cold temperatures and occasional snow showers over the past week have caused changes to the weekend home schedule for UVA Wise athletics.

The baseball season-opening doubleheader vs. Bluefield State scheduled for Friday, February 6 has been cancelled. They are working on scheduling a doubleheader at a later date.

The baseball doubleheader vs King set for Saturday will not be played. Sunday will now feature a nine inning game starting at noon followed by a seven inning game. The March 24 UVA Wise game at King will now be a doubleheader.of two seven inning games.

The lacrosse season opener against Charleston will now be played on Sunday at 1 p.m. Lacrosse fans who come to that game will now get an extra free NCAA Division II lacrosse game as Charleston will play Emory & Henry at 4 p.m. on the Beaty-Richmond Field. Charleston was originally scheduled to play at UVA Wise first and then play a few hours later at Emory & Henry, but that game has now been moved to Wise.

The tennis matches will go on as scheduled as they are being played indoors in Charleston, West Virginia.

Softball's season opening weekend in the Lee Invitational is being played in the warmer climes of Chattanooga at the aptly named Frost Field on the University of Chattanooga campus. All games are on as scheduled. There will be no video stream of any games in the tournament.

The basketball doubleheader at Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday is on as scheduled. The women's team takes on the 25th-ranked Bears at 2 p.m., followed by the men's game vs. L-R at 4 p.m.
