HUNTSVILLE, AL – Twenty-fourth ranked Alabama-Huntsville used a 6-0 start to get past UVA Wise 13-7 Sunday afternoon at the John Hunt Park in Huntsville.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Chargers struck first with Ella Rutherford scoring the opening goal at 12:44. Sarah Cole extended the home team's lead with a goal at 11:15, assisted by Olivia Rewers. Despite several clear attempts and ground ball recoveries, the Cavs were unable to capitalize on their limited shooting opportunities, leaving Alabama-Huntsville leading 2-0 at the end of the first quarter.
- The Chargers seized momentum in the second quarter with a scoring burst, starting with Meghan Doody's goal at 12:11, assisted by Maya Bronson. The home team extended its lead to 6-0 as Megan Robertson and Ella Rutherford each found the net, with Rutherford scoring twice in quick succession, the latter at 7:19. Despite trailing, the Highland Cavaliers responded late in the quarter when
Kaylea Paterson scored a woman-down goal with just 14 seconds remaining. Alabama-Huntsville maintained a 6-1 advantage at the end of the half.
- The third quarter saw Alabama-Huntsville extend their lead with a goal by Meghan Doody, assisted by Ava Fudjinski, just over a minute into the quarter. The Cavs responded with a woman-up goal from
Olivia Guy at 11:19.
Noley Hiller capitalized on a free position shot at 7:57, and
Chloe Huston added another for the Cavaliers from a free position at 5:24, but the Chargers' Ava Fudjinski and Doody quickly answered back with goals at 5:10 and 4:14, respectively. The quarter concluded with Meghan Doody scoring again at 1:31, assisted by Olivia Rewers, and Maya Bronson sealing Alabama-Huntsville's lead with a free position goal at 26 seconds remaining. The quarter ended with the Chargers leading 11-5.
- Alabama-Huntsville maintained its advantage in the final quarter, starting with a woman-up goal by Olivia Rewers at 13:35. Kate Simoncic extended the lead with a goal assisted by Ella Rutherford at 10:54.
Taylor Thompson responded for the Cavs with a goal at 4:12, followed by
Noley Hiller scoring on a free position shot at 43 seconds left in the quarter. Despite these efforts, the Chargers' early lead held, and the hosts walked away with the 13-7 victory.
