ROCK HILL, SC – UVA Wise softball pitcher
Olivia Shockley has been named the South Atlantic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week, conference officials announced on Tuesday.
The sophomore from Wytheville, Virginia, helped lead the team to an undefeated week and a seven game winning streak. She made three appearances last week and had a 2-0 record with 12 strikeouts, an ERA of 2.15 and a WHIP of 1.62. In her two wins she only allowed one run off of nine hits and had eleven K's.
For the season she has a 3-0 record with a 2.07 ERA and 1.48 WHIP, only allowing six earned runs and 18 hits in 20.1 innings.
Shockley becomes the first UVA Wise pitcher to earn South Atlantic Conference pitcher of the Week honors since the school joined the SAC in 2019. The last conference pitcher of the week from UVA Wise was Kailyn Spencer, who was the Mountain East Pitcher of the Week honors in February of 2019. One of Shockley's pitching coaches at UVA Wise, Taylor (Brandts) Kelly, earned the MEC Pitcher of the Week Award numerous times from 2014-18.
The Highland Cavaliers will travel to Athens, West Virginia, Wednesday afternoon for a meeting with former MEC rival Concord. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
