GREENEVILLE, TN – The UVA Wise men's cross country team showed its strength Friday at the South Atlantic Conference Preview Meet, hosted by Tusculum University. On a challenging three-loop 8K course with more than 800 feet of elevation gain, the Cavaliers placed second out of seven teams, topping two squads currently ranked in the Southeast Region top 10 (No. 8 Tusculum and No. 9 Emory & Henry).
Senior
Jonah Adams led the charge with a podium finish, crossing the line in 29:04.50 for third place overall. Freshman
Dylan Colander continued his strong debut season with a 10th-place showing in 30:32.00, while fellow freshman
Patton Shortt placed 16th in 31:35.70.
Junior
Chad Douglas (31:47.20, 18th), freshman
Caleb Ghammashi (32:17.00, 25th), and freshman
Dorian Almer (32:23.30, 27th) rounded out the Cavalier scorers, giving the team a balanced and consistent effort across the lineup.
Though times were 3–4 minutes slower than personal bests due to the course's demanding terrain, UVA Wise left Greenville with momentum and a major confidence boost against conference competition.
UVA Wise will return to action at the Royals Challenge, hosted by Queens University in Charlotte, N.C., on Thursday, October 10. The meet will serve as the Cavaliers' final regular-season tune-up before championship competition begins.
